The smokey eye is a classic eye makeup look– for a good reason! With so many variations and ways to dress this fun eye makeup look up or down, smokey eye makeup is a perennial favorite. Today, we’re going to share some unique smokey eye makeup looks that you can try this season.
The Simple Smokey Eye
Smokey-look makeup is one of the easiest eye looks to learn because it does not require precision. If you’re just starting out with trendy makeup looks, knowing how to do smokey eyeshadow is a great skill to master. This technique is the first step in all of the looks we’re highlighting today.
You will need:
-An eyeshadow blending brush
-Four colors of eyeshadow (if you choose from a eyeshadow palette, you don’t have to worry about matching)
-Kohl eyeliner
The steps for this smokey eyeshadow look are:
-Take the lightest shade and cover your eyelid, focusing on the inner two-thirds.
-Take your medium shadow and blend through the crease of your eyelid to create a soft transition.
-Place your darker shadow on the outer third of your eyelid and blend it into the crease.
-Place the same color on the outer half of your bottom lash line to tie the smokey makeup look together.
-Take your kohl eyeliner and trace along your upper lash line. You can use black, but brown or gray can give you a more natural smokey eye makeup look.
-Place your darkest shadow on top of your eyeliner, blending it out for a soft line.
-Add your favorite mascara and you’re done!
Now that you’re a smokey eye master, let’s look at some more fun makeup looks. Smokey eye makeup is so versatile– there’s a look for every style using this technique.
The Subtle Smokey Eye
This is the perfect daytime smokey-eye look. By using brown shades instead of dramatic charcoal and black, you can achieve a natural smokey eye look that gives a very polished, professional attitude while still being glamorous and gorgeous. Subtle smokey eye makeup is easy to do with very polished results.

The Shimmery Smokey Eye
Shimmery shades of charcoal and gray give your lids a lovely metallic appearance. To really make this look pop, add your favorite falsies– false eyelashes underline this look’s dramatic appearance.

The Red Smokey Eye
Dramatic red smokey eye makeup is sure to catch everyone’s attention. To create this glamorous look, use an orange eyeshadow for your lightest shade and deep, intense reds for your darker shades. A pop of glitter can make this look like flickering flames, and dark, intense eyelashes can make it look even more dramatic.

The Two-Tone Smokey Eye
This modern, trendy makeup look uses the contrast between the smudgy, dark smokey eye and an under-eye splash of brighter color. Use a fat blending brush for nice, soft blending and a smaller, sharper brush for a pop of color. Any bold color will look great; the brighter, the better.

The Sparkling Smokey Eye
Add some sparkle to your life with a smokey eye with glitter! Keep the glitter in the middle ⅔ of your eyelid and be careful not to blend it above the crease to keep this look shiny and clean.

The Dramatic Smokey Eye
A dramatic black smokey eye is one of the classic dark eye makeup looks. It uses smokey eyeliner as well as blended eyeshadow. If you’re wondering how to do smokey eyeliner, it’s quite easy– apply it heavily and blend it out with a small blending brush.

The Rainbow Smokey Eye
This colorful look might look complicated, but it uses the same techniques as the basic smokey eye– it just uses different hues instead of different shades of the same color! Add some glitter or crystals to make this look shine even brighter.
